The goal of our outreach projects are to follow the leadership of the Anglican Diocese of Edmonton as set out in the Five Marks of Mission these are the projects we are working on within out parish and neighbourhood to bring these beliefs to life.
Over the next several years we aim to establish partnerships with outside agencies to support ministry that serves the whole neighborhood, not just our church members. We will foster growth with the partnerships we already have and explore ways in which we can collectively build a stronger, happier community for everyone.
On the third Sunday of each month, and throughout the year, members of the congregation donate food items to the Edmonton Food Bank. We have also celebrated Advent with a Reverse Advent calendar, where families add a food item to an Advent bag each day and bring it back to the church in time for a Christmas donation, and look forward to doing so again this year.
These cards are another important way we help feed our neighbours. During COVID when in-person gatherings were cancelled or restricted they were a contactless source for people in the community seeking short-term food assistance. This is an ongoing ministry helping assist people who come to our door seeking food.
Contact Archdeacon Jordan at rector@goodshepanglican.org if you would like to support the grocery card program.
The community meals offered at St. Faith’s through PrayerWorks has been a much loved volunteer opportunity in our parish in the past and we are very excited that we will be able to resume our support.
Every year Good Shepherd helps feed our brothers and sisters in the inner city by providing and serving food. For more information about the ICPM check out the link below.
Greeting and prayers are sent to the Kipnes Center for Veterans and members of our church community. If you know of a group that could benefit from our contact, please let us know.
Good Shepherd has volunteered with Calder School in many ways over the years. From school supply donations, to snack programs and more. We work to follow the guidance of Matthew.
At that time the disciples came to Jesus and asked, “Who, then, is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?” He called a little child to him, and placed the child among them. And he said: “Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. Therefore, whoever takes the lowly position of this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven. And whoever welcomes one such child in my name welcomes me.
Matthew 18:1-5
We are aware of how much energy, time, and resources that our teachers, school administrators, and parents dedicate to providing the best possible education to the children of our community. We aim to develop programming that supports students in schools and to strengthen the programs/donations we have run in the past.
We have seen first hand the stressors and struggles that loss of income has had on our neighbours. As such we would like to our best to support the “Make Tax Time Pay” initiative. We have been able to act as a drop-in center for tax support in the past and look forward to continuing to support our neighbours and parish with access to safe and confidential tax filing services.
If you are a business or individual who would like make a monetary donation (tax receipt provided for cash donations); or volunteer for any of our Outreach Projects or donate a large number of items for our pantry please contact us; and we will be happy to answer any questions you may have about any of our current projects.
As always it is important for us to share the love of God with our neighbors. We have some resources available to support our neighbours in need.
