The Great Vigil of Easter with incense: April 19 at 8:45 PM
This is the night when Jesus Christ broke the chains of death and rose triumphant from the grave. Tonight, we conclude the “Triduum Sacrum,” the Three Sacred Days in which our salvation was accomplished.
We begin in darkness, waiting at the Tomb as the women did so many centuries ago. The New Fire is lit, and we process into the church, following the light of Christ. We hear the stories of God’s plan of salvation as begun in Creation, and demonstrated through his love for the people Israel in the Exodus, in the days of the kings, and testified to by the prophets.
At this point, we proclaim the Resurrection of Christ and the Good News of Easter. We renew our Baptismal Vows, and give thanks for God’s salvation through water and the Holy Spirit. We celebrate the First Eucharist of Easter, and go forth singing Alleluia!
Easter Day Festival Eucharist: April 20 at 10:30 AM
On this day, we celebrate the Resurrection of Jesus Christ and his promise that we too will be raised to eternal life with him.
Our worship today is particularly festive, with special music and flowers. The service will last approximately one hour. Worshippers of all ages are encouraged to participate fully. Children are especially welcome! We encourage families with young children to sit near the front so that children can see all the goings on at the altar. Should you require a space to comfort a crying child, the narthex immediately behind the church allows parents to see and hear the service in comfort. Washrooms with changing facilities are also available.
All who have been baptized and receive holy Communion in their own church are welcome to receive Communion at Good Shepherd. Children are also welcome to receive Communion as their parents direct. The ushers will direct you to the altar rail at the appropriate time. Gluten-free wafers are available. If you would prefer not to receive holy Communion, please cross your arms over your chest to indicate you would prefer to receive a blessing.
Please join us after the service for a festive coffee hour.
